I am merely looking for some help trying to figure out what could be wrong with my Subaru. It's a 95' and under 100k miles still, in very good condition. A few months ago it started having this "problem".

Problem is, it doesn't always start. First thing in the morning, it starts every single time. What I've noticed, is when I run the car, and let it sit longer than 30 - 45 min it won't start again for a long while. Which leads me to believe that it has to do with the engine being hot. One time I hadn't run the car in 4 hours, but it was hot outside and it wouldn't start at all.

When I turn the key, it has power, doesn't "click" or anything- so it isn't a starter issue.. it turns over just as if it would regularly, prior to starting.. but doesn't. Very often if I sit there for 10 - 15 minutes trying to start it a few times a minute.. eventually it will start.

I took it to a mechanic that works on imports and he says he didn't have a clue what was wrong with it, mainly because when he had it.. it didn't perform it's "I won't start for you" routine.

The only thing I can think of is some sort of fuel issue or temprature sensor?

Needless to say it is very frusterating, inconvenient, and when it is hot outside.. it sucks sitting there and trying to start it.

Please, if anyone has heard of or had experience with this problem, help! I would greatly appreciate it... http://bbs.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Have you checked fluid levels - coolant etc.

What's the thermostat telling you? Does it run warmer than normal?

Fluid levels are fine. Doesn't seem to run warmer than a normal vehicle runs.. and thermosat reads perfect. It is just something to do with the car not wanting to start after I've turned it off and left it off 30 min - 2 hours.. following driving it.

Check the fuel filters and fuel pressure - also check the fuel pump.

Sounds like you may have a leaking fuel injector which is flooding the engine after running for a while. It probably starts easy from cold because the fuel has evaporated over time. Wll it start easier if you floor the gas and hold it to the floor while cranking? This would clear the flooding situation. Could also be a bad coolant temperature sensor.
