Well I sold my '87 coupe chassis on ebay a while back. Didn't take a huge loss. But after searching locally, online, ect for 60's - '70's car I finally found what I was looking for. I just bought a 1969 Cougar. I looked into mustangs, I'd love to have a 65-66 fastback 289 4spd car, but I don't have 30k+ for something like that. I looked into falcons/comets, just couldn't find a solid car. Almost bought a '65 Fairlane but it needed more than I wanted to take on. Thought about a '74 Torino (starsky & hutch). But then I came across a beautiful '69 Cougar in my price range so I bought it. It currently has a 302/FMX in it but I'll be dropping my 351w in it with a set of flat tops to replaced my trashed dished pistons. Now I just gotta find a set of clutch pedals so I can put my TKO in there behind with 351w. Slick looking car, 450hp, 5spd, posi 9", sounds like fun to me. I'll put a blower on it in a few years. :evillol:

My 1969 Cougar needs weather stripping around windows ect. But before I can order the parts I need I have to figure out if its an XR-7 or not. Is there something in the vin to look for? I'd like to get the car road worthy soon. I drove it the 240mi home from WV but it didnt rain so I didnt get wet.
Thanks

YOU SOLD THE STANG!!???

You had all that work into it. What happened? Did you get bored, or find a problem?

The Cougar is cool though, don't see them every mile down the road like our beloved Mustangs. Looks solid 351, good luck.

Now you'll have to change your name to 351W Cougar.

Got offered a good price for the stang. So ya I sold the chassis. Still have the motor. Traded the tranny for a TKO, and I'm trying to sell the turbo kit.

The Cougar will be N/A for this year. Around 450hp with a 5spd. So I'll still have my hotrod, only in muscle car form.

SHARP LOOKING CAR, SOUNDS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE STRONG. I WAS LOOKING IN THAT DIRECTION WHEN I CAME ACROSS, MY 69 MUSTANG. I HAD JUST MISSED ON A FASTBACK, AND PICKED UP A COUPE. I HAVE BEEN GOING THRU A TOUGH TIME GETTING THINGS DONE ON IT, AND WAS WONDERING WHERE I COULD GET THE BEST DEAL ON A WIRING HARNESS, COMPLETE FROM FRONT TO BACK, INCLUDING A NEW FUSE BOX. I DID THE QUICK FIX TO GET IT WORKING, BUT THANKS TO THE GUYS WHO WERE DOING SOME BODYWORK FOR ME I HAVE WIRING PROBLEMS AGAIN. I LOOKED AT JEGS BUT ITS ABOUT $800 FOR THE WHOLE DEAL, MAY BE WHERE I HAVE TO GO, BUT I HATE TO SINK TO MUCH MORE INTO IT. THOUGHT YOU MIGHT KNOW SINCE THESE CARS ARE SIMILAR IN STYLE AND PARTS.

Look into Painless Wiring in Summit or Jegs. Otherwise check out mustangs unlimited.

If I can find some pics of mine I will post them. Keep it N/A with that car, anything more your going to hate to drive it.

David,

What pistons let go on your engine? I am in the process of purchasing a stroker?

Any advice, since you have been down this road?

8.2 deck stroker or 9.5 deck stroker Tony? Probe pistons let go in my motor. I would suggest JE or Mahle. Whats the combo? You know these questions require massive details... even if its just because I want to ooh and aah at it lol.

SkylineUSA

Actually one of each:) I was leaning towards JE, so that is good to know.

My GTR was stolen, so we got the insurance from that, so now I have the money to fix the other cars up:)

'69 Cougar under construction. Should get the motors swapped out over the next couple of days. A little fab work and I think I can get the TKO in there too.

Got started yesterday about noon. 8 hrs later the motor/tranny is on the ground, engine bay striped for cleaning, and degreasing. I'll try to get picks today, I meant to get a motor pic before I pulled it but I forgot.

Sounds Like Its Going To Be A Strong Running Cougar, Came In Late On Your Swap, But Woth The Tranny, Sounds Like A Newer Mustang Instead Of Vintage That You Sold. I Have A 69 Coupe (not A Fastback-darn) Anyway, Have Been Trying To Find A Headliner Rod For So I Can Get The Headliner Put In, I Need The Sencond From The Front, Not Sure If All Are Different Sizes But I Know There Are At Least 2 Different Sizes, Makes A Difference, If You Have Any Ideas Are Know Anyone Who Might Have One, Sure Would Help. Thanks For Any Help. Good Luck With The Cougar, Looks Good.

Update:

450-475hp - 357w/TKO installed.
MSD installed.
Shortened driveshaft installed.
Long tube Flowtech 1 1/2" X 3" headers installed.

Going back in the morning to top the tranny off with fluid & turn the key. Wish me luck!

Yes yes Tony. Pics are coming soon. It fired right up today, going back in the morning for one last clutch adjustment and then I'm driving that cat home. I'll snap some pics for you tomarrow. I had the camera today but was just too busy double and triple checking everything to think about taking pics.

Great news!

Was the TKO a pain? I am thinking of going T5WC for my Cougar.

Well I fabbed my own stuff instead of spending hundreds on "swap parts". It was not much worse than any manual tranny install though. Dont be alarmed if your shifter is off the the pass side of the shifter hole though, I had to make my hole bigger. Its just the offset in the tranny, the motor isnt crooked lol.

Very Nice, you need an Eliminator Hood Scoop, 69 were the same color as the body, 70s were painted black:)

I have a black Eliminator scoop. Its about a 1/2" too short. They are really low profile.

I thought about running a 4" filter element and a Boss 429 hood scoop.

Heres a crappy vid of the car.

I guess the closeup of the mufflers was too much for the little camera. You cant hear it in the clip but it actually cams pretty good.

David,

That Cougar sounds Great! Is that with the F303? Very nice!!!!!!

There is a Boss 302 Eliminator body on ebay in bad shape going for well 4 grand, with no engine, rust all over the place, no trans, or rear, just a crappy shell, Just shows what they are worth no days.

Your engine looks damn good as well.

Thanks Tony! I found a couple very small bubbles on the bottom front corner of the pass side door, the pass side rear floor pan has begun to crack, also the bottom corners of the rear glass have some filler smeared in them, and the trunk floor needs new metal. Other than that the body is pretty much solid as a rock. The problems that are there are basically small ones. No patch panels, all 1969 steel.

Ya I figured out its not an XR-7, its a base coupe with several XR-7 options. Power steering, power disc brakes, factory a/c (not dealer installed), 351w, LS 9" rear, and probably some other options I haven't noticed yet.

No, I hadn't seen that vid, thats badass lol. I've been thinking about putting an eliminator rear spoiler on my car.

Those are 17x9 98 Cobras. I had to change out the studs.

You need some big fat tires in the back, to give it a good look.
