86 Transam Help

Hello,
I have a 1986 TransAM, and it’s in awesome condition, but I do have 1 problem.
Often when I accelerate hard, and sometimes even under normal acceleration, the engine power just disappears, the RPM’s drop way down. After a couple seconds, the engine normally picks back up and accelerates hard as if nothing happened. Sometimes I have to lift off the gas before the engine will come back to life. Sometimes if I don’t lift off the gas, the car will stall.

I have a feeling the engine is getting flooded, does that sound right? If so what type of repair am I looking at.

The engine is the ‘H’ model, the LG4 305 Carb. The only engine mod is a flowmaster muffler, but the rest of the exhaust is stock.
My old 84 Transam did the same thing, and had the same engine style. Is this common in this car? And how do I fix it.

Thanks,
Lee

i would check the power valve in your carburator. sounds to me like it might be sticking

I have a 86 TA as well. The engine is 305, however I'm not sure if it's an H or G. I have two questions

1. What is the best carb for this car?
2. What is the stock carb?

Reasoning: I'm rebuiding it for eventual resell, and I want to put something good in it, but I haven't decided if I'm gonna mod it or just give it an original feel.

Thanks!
