Need advice on making vinyl top

I'm doing a Buick Grand National, but trying to turn it into a Regal and am going with a vinyl top. Well so far the only idea I've had was using the grey duct tape because of the texture, but when I spray and after it dries the paint tends to come off if it is bent or curved, plus its a pain in the butt cutting and measuring with this stuff. Does anyone have any advice or know anything about doing vinyl on a model car?
Thanks again

Testors makes vinyl top spray paint.
You can apply masking tape like a vinyl top, overlap the seams and then paint it.
You have to apply any chrome trim before painting; small strips of half-round styrene work well.

There are several good ideas in this thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=734434&highlight=vinyl+top

I made my vinyl roof with just Tamiya semi gloss black acrylic paint and the use of masking tape.
First I masked up and painted the sides and after that was dry I masked up the roof a fraction in on the sides giving me a small seam.
The paint was not diluted and airbrushed from a distant to give it a wrinkled finish. A part from getting to shiny (for some reason?) it worked fine and just needs some chrome surroundings to finish it off.

You can spray a flat clear coat to remove the shine.

Yupp, I know.
Just anoying when paint behaves in a different way it usually does giving some extra work.
The poncho is on halt since the hood came out looking like crap and there is quite a few steps involved in the paint job. blue pearl on silver with clear coats on.

This is EXACTLY what I did to my Goat a couple years ago. I didn't even paint the masking tape though. It came black from MCG or Detail Master. I used half round tubing to mark out my drip rails, and then BMF'd them. Hope this helps.
