hey guys sry its been awhile ne ways i was thinking bout painting my car but i have no idea wat its going to run me i just want it a flat white or something bright ie yellow or something to go with green(nothing like 2 tone or ne thing like that) how much would this run me

ps i'm in canada so if u could convert it 2 cdn $

well there are some factors in painting a car. Do you want something higher quality or lower quality... and what exactly are you looking to paint on the car... everything, just somethings, graphics... etc... This would be a little more helpful to give a real rough estimate on prices.

The best way is to call or go visit your local body shops and get and estimate. Most estimates are free, of coarse.

But here in the U.S. its about $2500-4000 depending on what paint you use and any body work that may need done first.

That's about $80 (US) in material, and probably wouldn't quite cover a complete vehicle. On a complete refinish, a quart of color would be safer. On a color change, more likely two quarts would be necessary to properly stripe the fenders, deck lids, jambs, and boots. With prime, tape, paper, glaze/filler, drip-check, abrasives, and cleaners, you could be looking at $300 (US) or more in material alone to repaint in a single color, with no custom striping or accents. With a base/midcoat/clearcoat system, the price would be slightly higher. You could spend $500 by doing it yourself, or as little as $100. Higher-end materials, like PPG, will cost about 15% more and may or may not be worth it if any matching is necessary. For example, the hard primer on this one alone was $120/quart:

If you're paying someone to do it, there is labor cost involved. Any repairs beyond minor glazing would increase the cost, and then there is the customary disassembly and preparation, then refinishing and assembly labor cost. I've seen some utterly terrible repaints for which people have spent over $3,000, and some very good, long lasting jobs which have cost under $1,500.

I think you nailed down the costs doing it your self.
It is always cheaper doing it yourself, but not always practical.
Earl Shives can paint your car for $299 :lol:
Though, I do not recommend it !

Painting it the right way, inside jabs, under the hood etc etc,
is where labor costs can shoot through the roof.

I use PPG , so my costs are a little higher but well worth it IMO.

About costs of paint and the various suppliers...

I'm getting ready to repaint my 1985 Chevy Van and went to the local
automotive paint supplier for paint. He quoted me $190/gal for acrylic
enamel in a maroon color.

Then I went online and found two sites that sell paint and I was able
to find my color in acrylic enamel for about $140/gal. I called them up
and also got a price for the same color in PPG which was about $300/gal.
Wow! $300 per gal???? What's in there, gold? :D

Seriously, what are the negative aspects of purchasing non-PPG paint?
I'm planning to paint my old 1985 Chevy Van just to get a few more
years out it hoping to make it look nice again but I don't require perfection.
