4L60E problems

I have a 1998 S10 4x4 (4L60E trans).
My truck will not upshift from 1st, it will continue to build rpms until I let up on the accelerator at that point it will shift into 2nd... When the truck is already in motion and I press down on the gas I noticed it will kickdown extra hard. I don't have much trans experience, but I've done a little research and have some guesses, the problem is I don't have a lot of money to toss around on my own self researched guesses.

Do you have a remote starter on your truck?
