airbag Sensor flashing

I own a 1991 Ford Taurus coupe. Recently the Airbag light has been flashing on and off. I had though the sensor had reset itself after I drove the car for a while.
However the light has begun flashing again.
Is this situation one I need to worry about?
Am I at risk of the Air Bag deploying suddenly?
My mechanic is on vacation this week- can I wait for him to get back
or does this need looking into soon?
Thanks

I had this happen on my 02 ranger. It ended up being a sensor under my seat. You can count the number of flashes to determine the error code. And as for the risk of your airbag deploying, dont quote me on this, but i believe it's the other way around. Instead of it deployed I think if it's flashing with an error it wont deploy in a crash.

I had a 95 taurus that the Airbag light was always on in. When I flipped it (not rolled, actually fliped) The air bag did deploy on impact with the median. Not actually when i landed on my roof but when i hit the median. So in my case even though the light was on, the airbags did function properly. Will there might have been a slight delay or I just didn't hit the median that hard because it felt more like the airbag came out and punched me than I flew into it but that might have been because i was upside down. Moral of the story It never randomely deployed.

I bought an old van for a work vehicle and when they shampooed the carpet they got it to wet and made the sensor under the seat turn the air bag light on so had to replace the sensor. If a warning light is on it's for a reason and brakes, seat belts and air bags are safety life support items and I wouldn't mess around guessing if it will work in an accident. I believe they can pull the codes and tell you exactly why the light is on so do the smart thing, . . . get it fixed. :slap:
Local car dealer & his son had a head-on with a car that crossed the centerline, both bags deployed and they were sore but not a scratch on them. Better to spend the money and get it fixed than have the steering wheel stuck in your rib cage or your eye teeth embeded in the steering wheel.

Pulling the codes for the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS, aka, airbags and pre-tensioners) requires special software running on special scan tools. The typical, consumer grade scan tool will not be able to pull most airbag codes.

Ford airbag lights do flash the codes 3 times before going solid.
Turn the key on, the ight will come on for 6-8 seconds, go out and then start flashing a series of blinks...count them. There will be a longer pause and then start counting again. You will come up with a 2 digit code (example---flash, flash flash, pause flash flash is a code 32).
Interior codes are 20's and 30's, exterior codes are 40's. fuses are 10's and control unit problems are 50's.
I hope this helps you understand your problem.
Feel free to email me directly if you need more assistance

sir, i encounter in my pontiac montana while driving, the airbag readiness light intermittently turned on & off for a few times, accdg to the manual, that if the light stays on, the airbag might not work during the crash or may inflate even without a crash. is there a sensor or loose connection that might be causing it, can you help me solve it? rgds.
