I would say your best bet in that price range would be the JBL 600.1....

I have one that powers 2 Shivas, and it works great!

im gonna have to disagree on the jbl amp. the best amp for what you're looking to spend for on etronics is gonna be the alpine AccuClass D... im not sure the exact code name for it but it'll put out 300 RMS and will sound a hell of a lot better than anything around its cost.

it has been proven thru extensive ABX testing, that power amps with all their accessories turned off and the volumes matched precisely have no HEARABLE sound quality differences. I would have to guess it's because speakers typically have like 100-1000% more distortion than a typical amp, so any differences in an amp would be lost in the distortion the typical speaker has anyway. What you really pay for is higher reliability and more honest spec claims - in fact, many of the specs are very underrated on some of the better brands.

agree with paulD. in the end, 1 true pyramid watt will be the same as 1 true watt from Brax. u just get higher quality stuff. with music, the audible THD would be about 3%. speakers are the biggest contributor to distortion. they can put out as much as 5%-10%. amps and headunit should be the least of your worries..:)
