ok, i just got an 03 gt sports package from my aunt as a graduation present, so i was just wondering what i could do to it for maintenence (it has 110,000 miles on it) and what performance parts i could put into it without breaking the bank (i am a college student, so i do like to go fast :grinyes:) thanks

Welcome to AF!!

The GT has far fewer preformance parts available than the GTP but some basic things can help with the performance. You could purchase a cold air intake and open up the exhaust. Since you are a college student you probably can afford a set of headers but removing the U-bend will only cost about $50 at an exhaust shop and should improve your housepower slightly. I am not certain if there is a reprogrammed PCM for the GT but check zzperformance.com or 3800performance.com to get some ideas. A cold air intake is worth a couple of HP and they are relatively inexpensive to purchase. Good Luck!

While on the topic of the u-bend delete, do most people pay to have it done or do it themselves? And if they do it themselves, how and what do they do? (I hope I'm not the only one on here that doesn't know this haha)

I had a mom & pop muffler shop do mine but in conjunction with custom 2.5" exhaust plumbing to include the resonator delete. Most likely they will have all tubing and parts needed. Most important part is they add an 02 sensor bung so you can thread in the rear 02 sensor. The 02 sensor bung size is 18mm X 1.5mm thread pitch.

Other option would be below but a little expensive. You can use the pics for reference.

Since the OP is a poor college student I guess headers is not on the table and on the re-programmed PCM modules you will most likely need to run premium gas. :grinyes:

thanks guys! what about NOS or a supercharger, any recommendations on whether or not i should risk it, and i was also considering putting in a manual transmission, but the cost is a little high. if you cant recommend any trans. then i was thinking of a shift improver kit and performance transmission parts for the stock transmission. again, thanks for the tips

Since you aren't looking to spend a whole lot, a supercharger is probably out of the question considering they run about $1200+ (at pfyc.com). And another question about the u-bend delete (sorry for taking over your thread, hopefully you can use some of this info too), what can I expect from it? more horsepower (how much)? better sound? anything else? Also how much did yours cost at that mom & pop shop?

lol, i dunno, i guess im just the stereotypical young guy, i want as much horsepower for as cheap as i can get it as soon as i can get it. but im open to suggestions as far as parts i SHOULD add to it

I think you and I are in the same boat, the path I'm going to take - start by building up the exhaust system a tad. Cold air intake, headers, high flow downpipe/cat, cat back system for starters then I'll see where my budget is when the dust settles, then go from there.

Some helpful sites for price comparisons, detailed part descriptions and good customer service I've found are...

3800performance.com
flowmastermufflers.com
pfyc.com
summitracing.com
borla.com
jegs.com
knfilters.com
slpparts.com
magnaflow.com
partstrain.com
zzperformance.com

Hope I helped
