98 Lesabre 3.8 (arent they all?) 84,000 miles.
I pulled out the map sensor (pretty sure anyway) and it seemed oily. Is that normal? Also do these tend to go out on these cars or what causes them to go bad?

Do you use a K&N air filter, or some other brand of air filter that requires oiling? Some build up is normal, just clean it off with some brake cleaner, but be gentle.

Are you referring to the MAP or MAF sensor? Having some oil on the MAP sensor where it mounts over the PCV valve in the twist on plastic retainer is considered normal.
The MAF sensor is located on the top of the throttle body. Do not use anything other than electrical contact or MAF sensor spray cleaner on the wire elements.
MAP is manifold absolute pressure and MAF is mass airflow.

This did not screw in it is basicly clipped on. It was mounted right of the end of the plastic cover, or was it intake. Cant check it right now. It is on the passenger side.

Yeah it sounds like the MAP sensor. Mounted on the right side (passenger) of the UIM Plenum. As I mentioned earlier some oil on the bottom accordian seal is normal.

Thank you, it was surprising to me to see it on there.
