2002 GP Starting Problems

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. It has about 93k miles on it. Ever since summer, whenever the temperature outside gets warm, and I drive my car (http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.asp?m=3977068&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1#) more than 2 or 3 places, on the third stop, my car won't start. It will turn over but will not start. After letting it sit for anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours, it will then start. I should explain, that my car is not overheating, this is happening when the temperature outside gets warm.

I took it to the shop and changed my radiator fluid, (needed it anyways) I thought that helped, but didn't. Then, you are going to have to forgive me because I do not know much at all about cars (http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.asp?m=3977068&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1#), but I took it to the shop and had the Ignition Modulator (???) replaced. It worked for about a month no problems, and now it has started having problems again. Does anyone have any suggestions. I feel like everytime I take the car in, I don't know if I am being told a fair price or if they are taking advantage of me. How much should it cost to do some sort of diagnostic test, or would that even be helpful...

Welcome to AF.

Also, helpful to post which engine you have within your post. Most likely the 3100 V6 since it is an SE model.

I see you are not getting much help at that other forum. Basically, ignition or fuel. Since the ICM module (ignition control) was replaced maybe you have a crank position sensor breaking down from the heat. It is an electronic component (Hall effects sensor) and subject to breaking down from the heat and may explain the difficult starting.

Other possibility is a fuel supply problem. Check the fuel pressure to see if it is in specs at the rear fuel injection system rail (right hand passenger side) next to the power steering pump. There is a Schrader valve where you can connect a fuel pressure tester. This will test fuel filter, fuel pump, pressure supply line and the fuel pressure regulator.
