I was looking under the car this morning and noticed a brown gunk all over. Does anyone know what it could be? There is no smell to it and its texture was a little like thick toothpaste.

All over what? The frame, the trans, the engine? Be more specific. Does the car have a manual or auto trans?

It happens to be on part of the frame some on the engine and transmission there may be more that I can't at the angle that I've been looking at. When I looked the only way to see it was to lay on my back and look up at it. It's a manual transmission. Could there be something that's leaking and mixing wih road grime to cause this?

Get a can of GUNK engine degreaser, Put the car up on some ramps, take a wire brush and knock loose any heavy deposits (Be carefull of wires etc..) Get the engine WARM, Not Hot....Then spray the degreaser on the underside of the engine and trans and let it set for 10-15 Min. Then spray the degreaser and junk off good with water (Garden Hose spary nozzle will do). Let it air dry. Now drive the car for a day or 2, pull it back up on some ramps and re-inspect the car to see if you can tell where it's coming from?
