Trying to catch up with the scheduled maintenance on my 04 GTP. One of the next things on my list is the brakes. Anyone have any suggestions on what works well or what to stay away from before I buy? (Keep in mind, I already spent all my money on the car... :screwy: So, I can't go invest a small fortune on the project.)

Also, I am at around 70k. Is there anything that you all know of that I should check, test, replace for sure? I do not have any vehicle history, so I can't assume that anything has been done already.

There isn't a lot of info on the newer models like there was on my 98.

Yeah but brakes are brakes and what was applicable to your old GP is applicable to your newer one. I'm surprised you made it to 70K miles on the original brakes, if they are the original??? Have you inspected the pads for wear or to see if they were ever replaced?

Brakes like anything else is a matter of personal preference and experience. I stick with Raybestos PG rotors and pads. Some prefer the OEM AC Delco or certain aftermarket brands. Some use the power slot drilled rotors which I have yet to see any improvement over the stock brakes. One product I would stay away from is the Brembo OEM replacement rotors. Not living up to expectations and early warpage or excessive lateral runout. Also, the ceramics pads are great for little or no brake dust but have reduced overall stopping power. I got rid of my ceramics and went with the Performance Friction brand Carbon-Metallic.

I just bought the car this summer, so I really don't know if they are original pads or not. They look like they are pretty low. Possibly second pair. One of the rotors is out of round, so I figured it would be a good time to put new ones on and then I would not have to guess their age. Thanks for the info.
