Second time thru Smoky's in a month. This time with a new radiator and temp didnt budge. I knew after the first big mountain that I would get to see
what shape the trans is in. Last time up the 3.5 miles of up hill to the pinnacle view it heated up last time and I had to baby it.

Hair pin turns to the right then stepp incline. 20MPH speed limit kept me going from idle to having to accelerate and it was working hard but climbing.

I put it in 2nd and kept it at even throttle and it climbed steady and strong.
Same way on the way down and everything seemed tight. ive had trans clutches held together with the carmel apples and this definately had clutches.

Now I have a confirmed strong trans and if i stay away from WOT
it will last me for a while.

WOT in the city how could it be done? To fast too soon and ticket happy mounties are looking for tickets. Nope not there.

Even on the highway going to TN never more than what I needed for 75MPH. Maybe halfway.

Never liked free wheeling down mountain and gasing it because I think the drive train is not real tight going down hill. And State troopers like to wait at the bottom.

Started thinking if they are down hill I'll run it up hill. Drive train is at it's tightest I would imagine.

SO I babyed it into and through the passing gear for the first time and laid the pedal to the medal.

85 on a grade has to be 95 at least on flat land

Hoping it would suck the soot. Not a chance in Harlan.

I could run the engine at WOT for a month and it aint gonna suck it out.

Not enough draw. All suck and no push.

BUT afterwards the Air came back on and worked the rest of the way home perfectly.

NOW During the WOT's vaccum was at it's highest rate in years this I am sure of.

I believe that all through the vaccum system rates were increased proportionally and sucked the fat off the bath tub FINALLY. No need to go into the dash.

Could be wrong again. I dont know much about the vaccum storage thing and whether it aids in the closing of ducts and such. maybe there is a leak there and the high vaccumm times gave it a chance to start working enough to function.


As of right now the only things that it really needs is channels cleaned and I want to put new rubber on the stablizer bars front and rear.

One day I will run that BIG HILL and have to turn it around and come or coast down... but not today.
