1995 bonneville OBD

OK, so I know this is an incredibly noob question. I bought a 95 bonneville used, and it came with a remote that isn't working. I replaced the battery, and tried the "re-sync" method (hold both buttons for 7-10 sec) to no avail.

The remote may have gone thru the washer or something and be fried, I can't tell for sure. I opened it up and couldn't find any obvious signs of a short or corrosion.

So, apparently I have OBD 1.5. Instructions say that you connect pins 4 and 8 with a jumper as part of the reprogramming process for the remote.

My question is, where the heck is the OBD? I haven't gotten too adventurous opening things up, I'm sure it's some place easy that I've missed.

DERT, nevermind. got it. only problem is, the pins look to be in 1, 3, and 8. The instructions say to connect 4 and 8.... am I missing something? Do I have a different OBD version?

Welcome to AF!! The 1995 model year was a transition year for OBD (on board diagnostics) from OBD1 to OBD2. Some of the cars are OBD 1 and some are OBD 2. The plugs are different between the two. The simplest way to tell the difference is to try to plug and OBD2 scanner into the port. If it fits you have OBD 2 if not you have OBD 1 and will need to either jump the pins or purchase a code reader that lets you pull the codes using the CEL.

As for the remote OBD really has nothing to do with it. I'd say you either have a bad remote or a dead battery in the remote. Or worst case the BCM (body control module) has gone bad in your car and will need replaced.

Thanks for the response. I wanted to try reprogramming the remote, just to make sure, since I've already replaced the battery. I checked the pins, and the black and black/white wires were connected next to each other. I am of the understanding that black/white is ground, and black is the one that when connected to ground, indicates a programming mode for the keyless entry. Anyway, I didn't see anything obvious with the fob when I opened it, so I think it took a swim or something (laundry?). Time to check ebay, etc. to look for cheap replacements.

You probably just need to reprogram the remote if it has been "un-synced" for some time.

1- Turn off ignition

2-Use a 3amp fused wire and jump pin #8 to pin # 4 at the diagnostic connector located under the dr ivers side of the dash. Pin # 4 is solid black wire at the connector and Pin # 8 is also solid black (according to my diagrams)

3- Close all the doors

4-Turn ON the ignition

5-Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK on one transmitter until the doors lock, then unlock (approx. 30 seconds)

6- repeat step 5 for every transmitter being programmed

7- DO NOT TURN OFF THE IGNITION!!! Remove the fused jumper first, then turn off the ign and verify remote functions.

Thanks Onblsht, but I've looked into that already. There aren't 2 black wires in my OBD. And no matter which way you look at the front of it, there aren't pins in spot #4 and #8. I tried connecting pin #4 (black) to the chassis for ground and then doing those steps, but that didn't work either. That's why I came to the conclusion that the fob is no good.
