Power Window

While on vacation the driver's window on my '95 Signature Series TC quit working (thankfully in the "up" or "closed" position). :banghead: All the other windows work.

How does one get to the switch to put in another? :nono:

Any help will be much appreciated? TIA

I take it you checked all the fuses and can't hear the motor running?

Switch, Door Lock -- Town Car

Removal and Installation

1. Gently pry up front portion of the window regulator switch plate.

2. Unhook rear edge of window regulator switch plate and remove window regulator switch plate from the armrest cavity.

3. Remove two screws retaining the connector to the window regulator switch plate.

NOTE: Take care not to damage electrical contact pins.

4. Carefully pry the window regulator control switch from connector with a small screwdriver.

5. Remove window regulator control switch.

6. To install, reverse Removal procedure.

i have also had my power windows quit working, except on my 92 towncar the window regulators broke. and when one of them broke it couldn't have happened at a worse time. i rolled the window all the way down to stick some fishing poles out of it and when i got to the beach the window was all the way in the door. so i was glad i had my tool kit to take the door panel off to fix it, or i would still have sand in my car. as of this point i have only 1 working power window. the driver window. as long as the other windows keep staying up and the a/c work they are staying broken.

like I tell muh wife i dont do Windows. Have done the drivers mirror and the door comes apart fairly easy from a 3 star out of 5 mechanic's point of view.

Yes that window regulator is a tough one to replace. The worst part is drilling all the rivits out. I've done enough on the Lincolns where it isn't to bad, now I know the best way to do it.

Here is a quick fix to hold the window in the up position when that cable breaks at the worst possible moment. Go get your self a pack of wood shims from the hardware store. They're good to have around the house any way. Insert the whole shim on the inside of the window twards the rear section of the door. It will hold the window tight in the frame so it won't fall down. I use this trick in quite a few my cars in the scrap yard. I like to keep the interiors dry and free of varmits untill they are ready to be taken to the crusher. :2cents: Good luck window guys

do you guys know if the radio, clock and power windows are all on the same fuse? i had to take it off the road (91' TC) for 2 months and when i put it back on the road none of these things worked. bastard mice made a nest in my glove box and shredded all my important paperwork. is there a chance they could have chewed through a wire? wouldnt they have gotten shocked? when i went to jump the battery a little mousie poked his head out of the fender hole under the hood. it was cute till i got inside the car to lower the windows! the car is pretty much shot but i have to hold onto it for a bit longer so i would love to not sweat everytime i get in this P.O.S.
i love the car but there are way too many prolems that no one can fix or even tell me what the problem is...ive spent so much trying to find someone who can tell me whats wrong with it. if any of you guys want to take on the challenge i'll explainn the best i can.

Too bad you aren't close I could take the old girl off you hands for you. What types of problems are you having, other than the power problems? Mice can do a lot of damage, how did they get in? I would start by fixing the hole so it dosen't happen again. Then I would check all fuses and relays under the hood and dash. You found the right place to get some answers to questions.

Mice got my Silverado wiring and my motorcycle seat last winter. It was open season on mice from that point on. We have 9 cats now. :evillol:

Take the door panel off and check the motor woth a battery. I took apart everything along with the table and found when I plugged it into another window motor plug it worked. the window on mine went up, but not down and the new switch worked.

the mice got pwned

I was going crazy trying to figure out why my A/C was not working.

Fans came on vents closed but no compressor.

Cut Ground wire at compressor (which is controlled by PCM)
and connected it to ground (neg battery) and it works fine.

Positive wire to compressore gets turned on and off thru a relay for CYcling and high pessure disconnect so it still has all safety features

PCM thinks that A/C ground is disconneted and saving energy and Im rollin along cool as a cucumber.

Im going to cut the ground for my moon roof at the module and run one direct and see if that comes on too.

This thing with the Cruise control recall is going to bring it all out about PCM related problems.

Crusie control is hooked in some way with PCM and the heavy draw that causes the harness to heat and catch fire has either burned away a section that grounds appliances like the compressor in the PCM or is drawing enough current to cause the PCM to save juice by cutting compressor and other big draws

if it has a ground tied to PCM I will now always check the ground first. The time it takes to cut and splice a wire could save ya some head aches
