Hi I have the Lmm Jaguar XJR-14 silk cut and I wonder if anybody can help me with the body color. I've searched on the net but I haven't come up with anything yet.
I've seen rallyraiders excellent build but he got the color custom mixed so it doesn’t help.
A good match or a color code for the correct color is what I'm after so if anyone can help me I would love it :icon16:

Hi,
Try this link: http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1480
It is for the:
Jaguar Racing (Silk Cut) Basecoat Paints for use on the XJR8 and XJR9 Le Man cars.
Don't know if this is the same...
Otherwise mail Steve of the site, maby he can help you further if it is the wrong Silk cut version.

Yes it´s the wrong purple I was planning on contacting him when I got some info on the color.

Hello Johan,
You can ask him to custom mix the paint as Steve does, if I understand correctly, offer this service.
Outstanding service and quality product, by the way, as has been well-documented by many, many modellers on this forum.
Another option is the Finisher's paint. This is the lighter shade of purple correct for the XJR-14. You should know, however, that it is not pre-mixed as are Hiroboy paints. If you go this route, remember to also purchase some of Finisher's thinners! Great paint, easy to apply and cover very well. Again, though, don't forget the thinners (you can use regular lacquer or cellulose cleaner to clean the airbrush). Apart from Rainbow 10 in Japan, a bit more difficult to find, however.
If Hiroboy can mix it, go with them and forget the Finisher's.

Michael

To my eyes, and from what I saw in my 'World Sportscar Racing '91' yearbook (many of the pics in the gallery are also in that book), the colour appears to be a solid. This is also the case with the Finisher's paint, and it must be admitted that Finisher's is pretty faithful to the real thing. Caution: I have not seen the real car, so I may be wrong.
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but while you're at it, here's a few more shades that I would like to see, and that would be well-received by the modelling community, I think:
Mercedes SLR722: "Crystal Antimon Gray" (Code 701). If you are willing to mix this, let me know and reserve me the KA Models transkit, as I will place an order! I work for M-B Canada, so this would be a must-have in my office...
Sauber Mercedes C9, C11, C291 (soon from S27!), and also the CLK-GTR's: 'German Grey'. I don't know the code, but it is not 'silver', but rather a metallic grey.
Corvette C5R and C6R: Millenium Yellow

My bottle of "Crystal Antimony Gray" (Code 701) was custom ordered Friday AM (NZ time), and was on it's way to me by Sunday AM..... One of your requests has already been answered... and the KA models transkit looks pretty good too. I got mine a few days ago, and the resin bits (which I'm cleaning up now) look very good.
I would have thought there'd have been an SLR722 WIP by now.... Perhaps mine will be the first.
I can't recommend Steve highly enough (I know a lot of other people have already said this, but it's worth repeating). Rapid service and a great product.
Regards
David

Having been a former employee of TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) I have no doubt that both colors on the XJR14 are solid and have no metalic quality to them.

Thanks for asking, very slow lately. Most all my free time has been spent working on my house for the last year. I was just thinking last night after seeing this thread I should dig My 1/12 scale XJR-14 out of the closet and get moving on it. Maybe some updates soon??

As Icon Modeler said, it is most definitely a solid color. I had the chance to photograph one at the TWR shop in Indiana way back in '93. I've heard that "Safety Purple" is a very good match although I think it may be just a shade too light.

This PM 1/43rd scale was painted with Krylon OSHA Safety Purple. It can be found at some Hardware Stores in the USA.

I have just now joined this site so I guess I may as well try to reply to this thread.
The color is VW LH4A. Yes a Volks wagon color!
If you speak German it is known as Verkehrspurpur.
When I get to filling out all of the registration forms(for some reason a few will not displayon my screen) I will formally introduce myself.

runaround Based on pics i have paid for and those listed i think krylon is to light as did mrrn back in the day add 50% black to krylon safty purple is heavy handed at best 35 to 40% matches my bill. however they were gods when it came to color and accurate tones so i may be wrong. so any time the want to restart there mag i will buy 10 years up front
