Rustproofing 2007 Corolla

Any ideas what is the best way to rustproof .
Most of the rust proof companies use a petroleum based product
that may damage plastic and rubber.
One of my friends uses a mixture of canola oil and ball bearing grease in a 10 per cent mixture to do it.
