Tamiya 962 [explitive] molded in glass question

OK ... I have first Tamiya 962 kit and I am now understanding all of the limitations of the molded in glass. My main question is ... what do I do about the connection point that is on the inside of each piece of glass? If you seen this kit, you know what I mean. The little nub of spue that is on each window. How do I get THAT off without totally scratching up the entire windscreen! Help!

I haven't seen the kit, only heard about it- but I'm curious to see it, and if there is a decent solution tot he molded in glass issues.

Sand it away, then polish the glass just as you would polish the paint. Take care, and time, and you'll never know it was there.

Thanks. I guess I'll hit it with a very light sandpaper and then some Tamiya compound.

Ah, this was originally a Tamtech R/C car body, wasn't it? This explains the weirdness. The 961 kit is the same way. :screwy:

Yeah, sand and polish them out. I'd recommend a sequential set of sanding sticks followed by a polishing stick, then rubbing compounds. A PITA to be sure, but at least the body and clear parts should be pretty sturdy, and the points aren't in grossy obnoxious places.

Yes actually it is the same body. Even though your From "A" 962C was not a Tam Tech RC car the body was molded by Tamiya the same way, from the same molds as was all the 962C versions released by Tamiya.

The only paint scheme you can do convincingly with this kit is a white one. Even with the masks they provide, due to the thickness of the glass, the white plastic body shows through at the edges of all the glass. This is especially evident on a black paint scheme.
BTW- they only provide masks for the OUTSIDE. If you want to paint the inside, you need to make your own or at the very least, make sure the inner body is masked off properly or overspray will rear it's ugly head.
I was really pissed when I opened the box and saw that garbage. Never did I expect that from Tamiya....especially at the retail price those kits went for.
