96 accord misfire

I have a 1996 accord ex with a short ram intake, throttle body spacer, aem cam gear, aem pulleys, and a obx header. Recently, when i drive my car, if i try to accelerate quickly, the car bogs down and misses continually until i let up on the gas to about 1/4 throttle and then it will stop missing. i have taken it to two differnet honda dealerhips and they said that they can't figure out whats wrong with the car and that it isn't throwing any codes. just wondering if anybody has experienced something like this and what the cause was or if somebody knows what may be wrong. thanks!!

When you say car bogs down did you mean that the engine is reving but the car is not moving? or it vibrate the car and then shoot off (moving?).

And do you have automatic trans or manual?

Misfire usually will throw engine check light on if its very very bad.

I have an automatic. When i step on the gas, the car basically sits in one spot and gadually creeps forward as it misfires. The car does vibrate a lot but the engine does not rev. The rpms stay low until i let up on the gas and the missing stops and the engine revs and drives normal.

Borrow a fuel pressure guage and see what the fuel pressure does when it breaks up. Brake torque it up in gear in the dark and look for spark jumping to ground through bad wires or boots. Lotta times leaky wires aren't noticeable unless under load, then the motor will fall on it's face. Makes sure the vacuum line to the MAP sensor isn't collapsing or cracked.

Any backfire when it's stumbling and missing? Is it a steady misfire like one or more holes aren't firing, or random surging like the whole motor is cutting in and out?

there isn't any backfiring when it misses. it is a continual misfire if i press the gas more than 1/2 or all the way to the floor but sometimes will driving under a load like up a hill, it will miss once or twice with the throttle at like 1/4 to 1/3 pressed.

check your tps or iacv.. throttle position sensor or idle air control valve.. cause when i take my iacv off and try to accel the car stumbles and doesnt want to go above 1500 rpms with it on it works fine

I have to ask...why would you try to run it without the IAC? I'm surprised it will even start...

at idle u would have to have the car on :lol:


of course the car wouldnt start with it off thats why u start the car then take the plug off while parked and see the difference

So you didn't take it off (like you said)...you disabled it.

There's a difference. BIG bifference.

I started a car with the EGR valve off one time. It was...interesting...and loud.

I also started a '68 Chevy's 396 with no carb on it....ever hear a big block turn about 9000 RPM with no intake restriction?:eek: ...pretty scary...dumb idea...:lol:

yea just disabled i wouldnt dream of taking it off because i dont feel like tracing down those gaskets at honda and i certainly dont want to have a vacuum leak
