No start without carb cleaner

Ok I have an 87 Bronco 2, I know its intake and not a carb but I sprayed carb cleaner on the air filter as a suggestion from a friend, sure enough it started for the first time in two weeks since it ran out of gas (put in 5 gal just to get it to gas station). However it only stays on for a few seconds then dies, has new oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and air filter now. Any ideas?

Fuel pressure?

I would def check the fuel pressure with a guage, was it really difficult to take the fuel line off the fuel filter? Also, when you turn the ignition on, can you hear the fuel pump prime on? You should be able to hear it turn on right by the fuel tank.

No, wasn't that hard to get the fuel filter off, also I'm pretty sure the inline fuel pump turns on but not so sure about the one in the tank, then again I could be wrong. I've been told to check the fuel relay (supposed to be the green one), could this be it or could it be the pump(s)?

if you ran out of gas completely you should prime the engine before trying to just start and go.

there should only be 1 fuel pump its in the tank. if u can hear it run when turning key to on position then pump is probolly ok. if u can keep it running with carb cleaner it should prime it self. if still doesnt run check fuel pressure around 45 psi. if no pressure or low & you are sure pump is running then u may have a clogged/calapsed tank screened

First off, how do i check the fuel pressure, and second, if I have a clogged/calapsed tank screened, (not too sure on what that is) what would i have to do to repair it.

We kept it running with carb cleaner by spraying it into the intake as it ran however things get a little firery if that is kept up.

there should be a fitting on fuel rail(looks like low/high connector for a/c) u connect pressure gauge there. turn key to ''on'' position it should be 45psi. if it is the screen is on pump itself.u gotta pull tank pump. Good Luck!!

Quick update, asked a owner of a local shop about what was going on he said check the inertia switch. Sure enough the button was popped out, so I pushed it in(of course the battery is dead someone left the door open for a few days) and its on the charge now.

With that inertia switch being like that is there anything else I need to know to do check I hear the intake pump coming on for sure now.
