Blinkers/flashers not working-Alero

I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero and my blinkers have been working on and off. Sometimes I turn them on and they work, but then they quickly turn off by themselves. Today was the worst. They did not work at all. Also, the hazard lights work on and off. I am wondering if this is something easy to fix. If I could just fix it myself. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AF.

Sounds like your Multi Function Switch(MFS) is bad.
Sometimes cleaning the old grease out,
and replacing with new,
will get them working but yours sounds like it might be done.....

Here is a link with the same problems.

It's from the Grand am forum but the GA is the sister to the Alero, in more ways then one :disappoin

To access the switch you'll need some torx bits.
The plastic cover behind the steering wheel needs to come off.
Should be two #25 screws on the bottom of this piece, remove those. The two halves might be connected but slip off pretty easily.
Should be 1 screw holding down the MFS right on top,
and thier are three plug-ins that need unpluged to remove the unit.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your help. My dad thinks it sounds too difficult. I think I'm gonna take it the shop.
