ok, so i pull up at a stoplight last night, and a Really nice Colbalt SS pulls up and starts Creepin up, and creepin up, so of course i do to... revvin a lil, ya kno... so the light goes gren, we both hit it hard... kinda wet outside but somehow he dosen't break traction for more than about half a second... surprised me. had him by half a car all the way through first, then in second he starts really pullin up on me, and brings it damn near dead even into third, when we shut down, since we were in town and doin 60+... so... Are colbalts really that quick, or is my engine really that wore out? i mean hes makin like what? 205 hp, but hes also onlike like 2800 pounds? anyone else w/ a stock 1st GEN vr4, ever race one? i mean i do have 160k on it but damn, that was a rush

Well i dont know if this helps any but I have a 97 SL in prime condition and I raced a cobalt ss and it was a one sided race in his favor all the way from the start. I thought they made a bit more than 205 hp arent they turbocharged?

on that note, maybe they are't turboed but he had an aftermarket turbo put in...just a thought

They come supercharged as well some SS anyways, and those things are good for a high 14 run quarter mile all day.

But i wouldn't feel to bad about losing i mean who knows what he had done to the car, just because you lose to a car doesn't mean you can't beat it stock, im sure it had work done to it, just like how most vr4's are rarely kept stock.. :evillol:

you dont know what he had done...i raced a cobolt ss on the freeway and he did pretty good against me. if i was bone stock it would have been a pretty good race, until we got into the 125mph+ area that is :)

he could have stage 2 upgrades and you have no idea.....yea they are that fast

i drove my buddy's before he got rid of it...very impressive. The supercharged ones are the only ones to worry about though (the ones with the combat style wing). They are a completely different car than the regular SS.

yeah my room mate has a 07 ss. hes car is definitly quick. he says there about 195 whp from factory and chevy lies about them being 205 flywheel. but yeah if he was a gm stage 2 that should put the car at about 225 to 235 whp so yeah they can defintily get up and go.

My friend owns a cobals ss stock. They come supercharged with 205 HP. He wouldn't race my SL for some strange reason so I wouldn't know who woulda won but they are quick.

They can be pretty quick, there's a guy local to me with a Stage 2, ran 13.0 in the quarter.

I crushed one in my TSI. Then I melted all 4 plugs and blew the compression rings.

He must have additional mods than just a stage 2 as I am almost 100% sure that would be a world record for the fastest stage 2 only SS/SC ever. Stage 2 should be good for a 13.9 or so pass for the SS/SC. They are quick cars but after driving the SS/SC and the SRT-4 I am very sure the SRT-4 would not have any problem walkiing all over a SS/SC unless you were just a bad driver in the SRT-4. And they were underated from the factory. 200-205 is about what they dyno at the wheels and as for the SRT-4 they were the same way, they dyno between 225-230fwhp instead of bhp depending on year.
