painted models?/

i was lookin at hobby search and the Models are like ALready painted on the trees... Did they do taht.. or is that how you get them....? if so, do you have to paint them.. or is the one that it comes with good???:confused: :silly2: :bandit: :confused:

More likely, that is the color they were molded in. A lot of japanese models come with differnet colored parts, opposed to all revell parts being white.

This is the same VeilSide kit as the ones listed above, but this time the body parts and the skirts and spoilers are molded in a type of plastic that changes color with the angle of view (similar to the effects of prismatic 'flip-flop' paints). Note that the body parts in this kit are not painted !
The idea is great, but the actual result is let down by dark mold lines running along the roof and engine cover and by the translucency of the plastic. The translucency can be countered by painting the insides of the body with a dark color, but parts like the rear wing have to remain translucent.
If you want to paint the model yourself: Gunze Sangyo sells Maziora paint, CM-04 'Trapezium' is the same shade as the body parts of this kit, but note that this paint is expensive at 2000 Yen for 18ml.
New parts in this kit are an optional set of dark tinted clear parts which come in addition to the regular clear parts.

Then I guess if you could find the "painted kit" at a reasonable price, it might be worth getting just for the tinted clear parts.

Well look at this supra for example.. it comes in silver... does it need to be painted at all...??

Looking at the Supra pic, I don't see any parts trees that appear "painted". Usually they only apply a finish to chrome, satin chrome, or other metallic colored parts.

So, should you paint? It depends on what you want the model to look like.

When I started building models, I hardly did any painting. Looking back, I only had a silver and black paint pen, and you can't detail much like that. I also covered the WHOLE model in clear! Not exactly accurate...

I don't know how long you have been building (you have a lot of posts!), but as time goes on, you will try more and more detailing. I myself say "PAINT THE SUPRA!!" How many Supras do you see on the road with no paint at all? How many engines are only one color? How many suspensions are just black?

See what I mean? You have to decide how much detail and correctness you want, depending on your experience and skills. Also, if you ever DO get a kit with pre-painted/finished parts, don't assume they were done properly. Just because a part is on a black parts tree, doesn't mean the real part is black!

The best advice I can give you is to wait for the guys here to finish models, then read what they have to say about the build process. Observe what they detailed on their cars and ask questions on how they did what. Also, visit the car modeling gallery and there's plenty of info there to keep you busy.

Sometimes, I skip painting the chassis and suspensions, that are less likely to be seen, and I still get some prize at a contest. (call me cheater:))
Anyway, Ingegra14, if you look at the body of the Supra carefully, you would notice a flow mark somewhere. Mine has a big one on the roof and left door, and that can't be hidden, that's why you have to paint the body. Some body is pre painted, but the seam lines are not eliminated, and it's very noticeable on the bumpers. So, again, it's recommended to paint the body.
