Transmission or sensor problems?

My '95 Concorde car is running good; however, the transmission will not change the gear when I increase the speed. Whenever it goes over 40 mph, the RPM would go over 3,000. So far, I have changed the crankshaft position sensor, but it did not help resolve the problem at all. :banghead: Please help.

Is the check engine light on?There are two speed sensors for the transmission,a front and rear one.

Tranny is in limp mode. As stated above it's likely to be one or both speed sensors. Does the speedometer work?

Thank you for reply,I really appreciated. I need you to explain what does the tranny limp mode mean, is that mechanic vocabulary? There is no engine light warning come out yet. The last time the diagnosis read was 12, 54, 53, 46. One of them reading was "No Cam SIgnal at PCM" Is that why the tranny wont change the gear? I will check the speed sensor for sure. I could suspect it could be one of the several factors that my car is having problem: Camshaft sensor position, speed sensor, or and throttle sensor position. One thing that I should concern, the pvc hose is very old and start to wore out, and easily bend when it is heat. Need new one?

I replaced the speed sensors, both input and output, but then I tested drive transmission. Yet, the transmission gear wont shift at all. The mechanic told me it might be internal high clutch failure:frown: . Also transmission needs overhauled or replaced. Is selonid problem? Hope anyone who really can help, I will be much appreciated.

the easy versions of what 'limp mode' is - when the tranny computer senses that it is having a problem it goes into this 'limp mode' in order keep the possible damage from getting worse. what the tranny does is put itself into 2nd gear and stays there. the idea is that it won't leave you stranded somewhere just because you may be having a slight problem with the tranny. second gear allows you to 'limp' home at low speed so you don't do more damage to the tranny without knowing it.
it is really a little mroe involved than that, but that is how it was explained to me in a way that made sense without being too technical.

Thank you, jimsualw17, very much for explaining. I really appreciate. I need to know whats happening to my car's tranny problem.

1. I sent my car to the shop to replace speed sensor both input and output. However, the replacement wont make the transmission better.

2. The shop did also test the transmission, the result was high clutch failure.

3. The mechanic told me that the tranny might need to overhauled or replaced depending on damage.

What am I supposed to do next? The car is running smooth, except tranny's problem. Anyone who have the same experience with the tranny problem, please if that is repairable or replace the whole new tranny.
