stereo problems

I have the usual factory AM-FM-CASS-CD stereo with the little magic wand and 3 band EQ in my '96 T&C LXi. Over the last few years it has gradually lost one function after another. The "set" button doesn't seem to capture a station I want. The CD player now doesn't want to send info to the speakers. several of the buttons need to be pushed hard or rocked until they work. The volume control can be turned many rotations without increasing the volume...then it hits a spot that works.
I hate to dump it because when it worked right it did sound and perform pretty well. I like the type of controls it has, but not so much if they don't work.
Anyway, is this a matter of pulling the unit, blowing out the dust, cleaning any contact parts, and having it work like before? Or, is it just plain dying a slow death that cannot be reversed?

the radio is 11 years old. there are plenty of used later model radios that would fit your vehicle on ebay. Or buy a new one from a local radio installer. There are many aftermarket radios made by Sony, Panasonic, etc that are reasonably priced that will fit in your vehicle.
Just my .2 cents worth
