Mercon vs Mercon V

When looking for lubegaurd at Autozone and not finding it I was face with a decision on which trans fluid. I asked and the guy looked it up. All it said was warning do not mix dex/mercon and dex/merconV.
I went to the owners manual and found what type and bought it. As the man that originally owned the car had it serviced vs do it youself.
I would hope they would use what was called for.
Warning said mix could be fatal to trans.
Also while going through past threads I saw one that said trans held 7 guarts and Torque converter even more,
I thought transmission capacities were in PINTS. At least it was when I changed my first trans filter.
iI added just enough fluid to replace what was lost from replacing radiator
and what came out was CLEAN I wish my blood was that clean.
Question: Could anyone see a qualified trans shop putting anything but what
is required in a 94 TC as far as fluid?
The man traveled many miles in it before me (163000) and a lot were on the highway. I cant carry on his bachelor lifestyle but I sure do love putting on the highway miles.
Car hits the onramp and seems to know exactly what to do. GO GO GO
Thanks for the tips I get along the way from you all and Good Luck
Next week I tackle the Smoky Mountains again and this time with a new radiator and A/C working.
which is great by me

ford has ended mercon. they say their mercon 5 will replace all mercon and mercon5 as well as dextron. not sure about other brands but try a good parts store (one that will take the time to check current messages) and they can tell you if their products will intermix the same way.
