im having a problem with my 96 corolla. its making noises which i can only speculate where they come from and it sounds like a combination of things. first off my brakes make almost a squeking chain draging like noise when im driving and is fairly loud until i brake a little harder than my gradual braking but i can still hear the quiet chain draging like noise if i drive next to some kind of wall. and i see the rotor is starting to grove. some times when im accellerating the car will vibrate and it feels as if my left front tire may need to be balanced and the fact that im overdo on my alignment (1 year).
the very last and most troublesome noise ive been hearing lately is when i brake and make a right turn i hear the whining and squelling/ squeking and it is accompanied by almost a crunch like noise you would hear if the CV was bad but i dont think its the CV because it only occurs when i brake AND turn right. ive just replaced the brake pads and used the antisqueal compound cuz they were squelling when i braked and ive had my once bad hub bearing replaced, before this problem occured, with a new one after six hours of waiting in the shop because the transmission shop with the bearing press put off and kept going on breaks. so i think i need an alignment/balance to start and then have the rotors checked and the hub reinspected to make sure there is no damage. would i be correct in saying that?

Hi.Sounds like you might have the backing plate rubbing on your rotors.Take the wheel off and check it out. Also you may have a brake caliper hanging up.When I replace my front pads,I use anti squeal compound on my pads.Take the car for a short drive and feel the wheel on the passenger side and on the drivers side.If the drivers side wheel feels hotter than the passenger side, you have a caliper problem.Let me know what happens..Diesel 1962

what does it mean when i have a brake caliper hanging up. as in it stays compressed longer than it needs too....if so how would i fix that would that be air in the brake line?

Hello again.Air in your brake system would not be your problem. When a brake caliper hangs up,it means that the piston is not releasing all the way, causing the brake to be applyed all the time on the affected wheel.Does your car pull to one side when you apply heavy brake? Also it could be your flexable rubber hose going from the body to the brake caliper that could be bad. They tend to rot out on the inside allowing brake fluid to go to the caliper, but not return to the master cylinder. If the caliper turns out to be bad, just replace it.Let me know what happens.Have a good day!!
