03 suburban gas gauge

03 suburban won't start when the gas gauge shows quarter full tank until you add a couple of liters of gas. I have filled the tank immediately after and the tank would only take 3/4 of a tank ie. the gauge is reading correctly! I have changed the fuel filter and filled the tank drove it down to a quarter tank and still it would not start any ideas out their????

Sounds like you have a fuel pick-up problem. You will have to drop the tank and check out the pick-up.

I think your right too many close to empty tanks looks like I am replacing a fuel pump assembly......having said that any thoughts on A CARTER brand fuel pump????????????????:shakehead
