You do have to reprogram the ECU to use a Cobra MAF. Whoever says otherwise is a monkey.
The MAF goes before the turbo.

Or you need a piggy pack system like a TEC-II or Motec. But those are expensive. Basic Apex-i crap like the AFC.

Because it's a monkey method of tuning. Owners of some cars have little choice, except to go to a stand alone system.
What are you doing that requires you to use a Cobra MAF? If you are making that much hp, you should already be spending thousands. You don't need a Cobra MAF until you're making over 250 bhp. To do that means you would have to have a $3k+ turbo set-up. If you're spending that much, now is not the time to go cheap on engine management. Get a JWT ECU. They are plug and play.
Those black boxes are "Dial-a-Booms." If you screw something up, you could be in big trouble in a hurry.

I am putting together a turbo kit for myself and read something about the cobra MAF...seems like it was required...and plus Jim Wolf doesn't do the P11 ECU yet...thats what I hear...

What kind of turbo are you going to run? You won't need a Cobra MAF unless you put more than about 215 to the wheels. That will take a T3 or larger turbo.
JWT can probably hook you up with a 97 ECU and wiring harness. That is what they did for their SEMA B15 turbo.

Hehe, ;). Didn't mean to offend ya bro. You can get some good results from the AFC. It's not perfect, in fact I'll probably end up with one before I get my turbo. However with a turbo I'll probably go with JWT, even if I have to modify the harness to use the unit. Or the JUN if I can get more info on it. For tuning turbos I still maintain the AFC's and dial-a-booms, as George calls them, are crap. Just my opinion.

I don't believe you can use the S13 or S14 DET manifold. IIRC there is a problem with turbo placement and clearance. I'm not 100% sure about this, but some time spent searching the SE-R Mailing List archives would be time well spent. I know this has been discussed there and I seem to recall Mike Kojima addressing this issue. You might have to be patient in searching, but I'm 99% certain it was discussed.

While on the subject of ECUs, I've noticed that no-one in the US ever mentions the Dastek Unichip piggy-back computer. Is there a reason?, are they expensive there? Are the a POS? They claim that if you are not satisfied within 3 months they'll refund your money including installation and mapping costs. From what I've read they are a great concept and their site lists over 20 suppliers in CA alone. Heres a link to Dastek's Unichip homepage

I don't think they are imported here. I've never seen them advertised or mentioned.

I think it's a franchise thing cause they have to be dynoed to each individual car.
List of US dealers here http://www.dastek.co.za/us_dealer_list.htm
There are 7 in Texas and the following 2 in Houston.

Wow. I'm not familiar with Hou-Tek, but I am with Hocus Pocus. Interesting. I can't tell you why no one seems to use them then.

There is a guy here in Toronto that supposedly does the Unichip. I was going to try it out but they guy never got back to me. He had to check if they had an adapter for the G20. I probably scared him off because it wasn't a honda. :D
