I'm over my budget by about $500 for getting a new system. I don't know much about stereo stuff in general, but I really want great quality. For about $300-$400 less (including amp), I can get the W3 300watt, or stick with the W6 500watt and go over my budget. The question is, is it worth it? I'm not big into super loud stuff, but am into quality. Is the quality of the W6 worth the extra $$$?

Its always worth it to get better quality stuff the first time, then you wont have to replace it.

It's a W6v2.

the w3 where jl attempt into spl and the w6v2 was there best sql driver untill the w7. so my money is that you are going to be more happy with the w6

the sound quality of the sub will depend greatly on the box and the install

^as paul said i think that has alot to due with box. You can make just about any sub sound better (sq wise) with the correct enclosure.

some subs are designed to be played in a sealed box, others are designed for ported and still others are designed to be used in either, but that is usually a compromise and those subs usually are not as loud as ones designed specifically for ported or as good as ones designed spefically for sealed.

Thanks guys. I got the w6v2 (400 watts RMS) in a sealed box. I have 700 watts going to it at the maximum volume setting on the deck. Hopefully it doesn't fry. aha. Sounds great though.

if the gain (sensitivity) on the amp is set right, it shouldn't be a problem

Seems there is a delay between when the speakers hit and the sub hits. Very distracting. I'll have to get the audio place to look into it.

that's normal, since the subs are at a different distace from your ears than the mids

Hmmm, well it's very distracting. Kinda hard getting into a good techno beat when the bass is off. There's no way to compensate for it?

If your deck has a HPF (High Pass Filter) setting then apply it to the speakers inside the car at a crossover frequency to what the cutoff frequency of the subs are, that will take away all of the low bass from the inside speakers and then you rely on the subs for all the lows, that may help a bit but you will never totally get rid of the slight delay unless the subs are riding inside the car with you.

Yeah, it's set up right now so that about 90% of the bass is gone from the front speakers. The guy at the place said his deck can set delay for all the speakers/sub, as well as adjust the EQ on each one individually... but it's a very expensive deck. He said they also made crossovers or something with that ability, but again, expensive. I guess I'll have to bear with it for the time being because I'm not shelling out anymore cash right now. Maybe in a couple months.

Yeah, the time alignment is what I need. I love my Eclipse 3100 so it's a darn shame that I would have to switch it out. I would go with Pioneer but I'm definitely an Eclipse fan, and maybe I'll just upgrade to this: http://www.eclipse-web.com/cd/cd7100overviews.html . It sucks because the only time I really notice that the bass is off is when listening to techno stuff (a large part of my library). I'm gonna be broke soon, haha.
