blown fuse

This weekend I started to do a front brake job on my sister/brother-in-laws '92 accord lx wagon, but after seeing a broken coil spring I gave up and told them I didn't have the time to mess with it. When they went to move it, it was dead and would not jump start. So tonight I immediately hooked up the battery charger and nothing. The 80 amp main fuse appears to be blown. What could have caused this? This had never happened in the 2 years I owned this car.

Thanks in advance,
Jon

The 80A fuse feeds the underhood fuse box and the alternator which is not fused by anything except the 80A fuse. Check the diodes in the alternator.

Please don,t take this as insult. It is not ment to be.But the only time I have seen that fuse blown is when someone is jump starting the car and crosses the leads.I would replace the fuse and see if it,s ok.

Hooking up the jump cables reversed would certainly blow the fuse but so will shorted diodes in the alternator.

My 90 accord has the same problem. Ive been though dozens of 80 amp fuses and they just keep blowing when i apply the brakes. I was told it might be a short related to the ABS. My car is currently at an electrical shop being "diagnosed" (once again). Hope they can fianlly find the real problem. If anyone knows what this is, please let me know.
