I've been working on this one for a little while now.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916001-1.jpg

I started on the wheels.I had a small problem with the rear wheel. The instructions tell you to remove a small amount of rubber from the inside edge of the tyre in order for the tyre to fit the rim properly, but no matter how I tried it would not fit and left an unsightly gap between the tyre and the rim of about 1mm.To remedy this problem I glued a small strip of plastic strip all the way around the rim and filled the join.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916WIP003.jpg

Once it was sanded primed and painted the fit was perfect.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916WIP006.jpg

I also painted the body parts earlier in the week. The paint is Zero Ducati Red and Zero 2K clearcoat.A few small dirt nibs landed when I sprayed the clear but they will polish out when dry.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916004-1.jpg

The seat unit.Painted and polished.

The frame, engine and mono swingarm are also together.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916004.jpg

For the exhausts I wanted to depict the bike with aftermarket end cans. This is how I prepped and painted the exhausts.

First glued all the parts together and cleaned up the seams.Primed with grey, then painted the whole thing with Zero Jet Black as a base.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916008.jpg

Next masked out the sections that were going to be carbon and applied the main exhaust colour (Alclad Pale Gold)

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916009.jpg

Then masked out the gold section and sprayed the aluminium sections (Alclad Aluminium)

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916013.jpg

Unmasked it looks like this.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916015.jpg

With carbon decals added (Studio 27)

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b61/stevenoble/Ducati%20916/Ducati916018.jpg

And finally fitted to the bike and with Termignoni logos fixed (Dexter Models)

That's it for now.Sorry for such a long first post.More as I progress.Any questions etc please feel free to ask.

I've made quite a bit of progress since my last post, had a few problems along the way (front mudguard painted twice, fiddly steering damper, etc.) the usual small things which annoy me but they have to be done properly.
Anyway the bike is now at the stage where the bodywork is ready to be fitted. Here's a few pictures of it 'naked' before it all gets covered up.

It looks great Steve. How did that wheel nut work?

Thanks,Rob.The nut worked out really good.It screwed straight onto the original Tamiya bolt no problem.I left it un-painted and simply polished it up with a little rubbing compound and added a photo-etch clip to it.100% improvement over the Tamiya 'nut'.A big thanks for making it.The Ducati is actually finished now,but it's dark here at the minute so I'm going to try and get some daylight pictures tomorrow weather permitting. It should be in the completed section in the morning.

another great model Steve.

I see that you put the decals on the model after clearcoating the parts.
How come?

How come?

I almost always do it this way.So few decals and usually the Tamiya decals are quite shiny already so I never risk damaging them unnecessarily.

The model is finished now.See the pictures in the completed gallery Here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=4909149#post4909149)

Awesome work Steve it looks real good. I really like the Zero Paint can't wait to try it myself. Do you sand the base coat before you spray the clear coat?

Thanks Dave.No there's no need to sand the basecoat before you apply the clear.Unless you get some imperfections in the basecoat then sand them out and apply more basecoat, but never sand the final coat of basecoat. This is particularly important with the metallic colours because sanding them destroys the structure of the flakes. All you need do is wipe the basecoat over with a tack rag and then spray your clear, that's it.

The clips were on a sheet from Model Car Garage. You get different sizes to suit various scales.http://www.modelcargarage.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=13&idproduct=169
