I recently bought my 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix with the eight speaker sound system. I looked a similar posting and I am having the same problem with my rear 6x9 speakers not working but the tweeters are working. I was told it was the amp so I went out and got one. However, I went to take off the front dash to my car and cannot find it. I took out the radio and the AC unit but still nothing. Any suggestions on where to look next? Thanks.

Check in the trunk up between the speakers on the back deck.

Also, before you replace the amp, test the speakers. They will intermittently work/not work. My 99 Gt did that and it was the speakers.

Yes I just bought a 2001 GP and the back speakers worked sometimes and then just quit. Push up slightly on the 6X9 speakers from underneath(Cardboard cone). Push up on the wire also. I found that the wire inside the speaker was toast as the speaker would work when I did push up on it.

It's probably the speakers if you have 8 of them and only those aren't working. I'm guessing you didn't buy an amp for more power to the speakers so the only one you should have is the one thats built into your deck (unless the ones with 8 speakers have another amp that I didn't know about).
