Help! I replaced a bad water pump on my daughter's 1997 Pontiac Sunfire (2.2L engine) last night. I disconnected the battery, removed the altenator (the pump is under it), removed the old water pump and installed the new one. After installing and reassebling everything, the engine now cranks but won't quite turn over. It's really close to turning over, but won't quite make it.
Is this related to replacing the water pump? It turned over fine just prior to my replacing it. Any thoughts?

I just re-read your first post. Before you do anything else, check that the battery cables are tight and no corrosion is present on the terminals.
Verify that the water pump and alternator spin freely, and then when you reinstall the drive belt, make sure you have installed it correctly. If that doesn't reveal the problem, then start looking at the battery. Good Luck.
