Cable / DSL What are your thoughts

Finally got a stable part time job, and im now seriously looking at getting some form of high speed internet connection. I don't really have a clue about which is better [maybe they are the same?] I just want some info from ppl who have em, good and bad points. Currently I am leaning more towards cable because they give free install, free NIC, and 2months free, and they are only backed up about a week, where as DSL has quite a long waiting list. Also, what do you guys / gals pay for the service per month?

here is what i feel, i have cable. cable at times, can be much faster but also slower. dsl is more consistent, there is hardly a difference between the two while surfing just a bit of difference while dowloading.

I've had cable for a couple months now and its been great. I dont know anyone using DSL but everyone using the cable up here seems pretty happy.

Well, I have experianced both. I am currently using DSL now. I like it alot better than the cable service I had. At times, my cable rocked. I could download at 350KB, where as with DSL, I am limited to a max of 65KB. The downside to cable, is it can get slow. From the same site, that I got 350KB from, sometimes it would drop to 20-30KB. There where other factors that made me decide on switching to DSL, that I will not get into. What you need to do, is think about what you will plan on doing with Highspeed, then go from there. Well, I have DSL. I'm very happy. Especially when it comes to downloading music and shit. It does it in seconds. Very fast and very reliable.:D :D

well since you live in ontario... you'll be gettin rogers, cogeco or shaw, right?

i have cable and it's ALOT better than the DSL i had before... the cable used to go slow at times, and faster at other times but they did something at the cable company and for the last 1/2 year, my cable hasn't even been down! and it's been fast all the time, it hasn't slowed down on me in a long time.....

i say go cable

I have DSL, I'm finding it okay, It can get slow but for the most part it's up at 30-50k. I don't downloads things that much and I was on my 14.4 for years so I'm quite happy with this.

my cable so far has gone up to 400k/s

but usually it's around 100-200k/s

this all downloading from the internet, it depends on the site

it uploads like a dogg though... i've never gone over 60k/s uploading or sending a file to somebody
it's always 40-60k/s

We used to have Dial up at 28.8 - that was all the lines could handle. Then, fibre-optics got installed, and I can now use a DSL modem. It's not all that fast compared to some here, as I am about 3 miles away from the office that supplies it. But, it's about 10 times quicker than dial up :).

we have fibre-optics in our school... it's pretty fast, especially for school... to bad we can't download anything, all we can do is browse, they lock out every function, you can't go into windows explorer or anything

they're so scared that people are going to destroy the computers, download bad things, etc.

last year was so much better, they didn't have as many firewalls and protection crap.... all class i was downloading and watchin little videos and playing games....... maybe that's why i failed! :confused:

cable modems are faster then dsl modems but the only bad thing is with a dsl modem you will always get the same speed with a cable modem the more people that live on your grid the slower it goes however this problem can be fixed by doing a few regedit hacks and sysedit hacks my cable modem get about 700k downloads and about 300k uploads when i had dsl i got 150 down and 70 up the you can do the same hacks on a dsl but it will not affect your speeds because power is dished out by lines and not square blocks go cable modem do the hacks and live happy ever after need any help with doing the hacks email me i can will help you out make sure you tell me what OS you use.

How'd you get into college?

im good with computers i just really suck at english to me i can speak it and write who cares if i miss one or 30 puncation marks take a deep breath and start reading

Do you have something against the period? .................................................. .................................................. ......................... There, that should make up for lost periods on your essay.

No but when i start writing i cant stop for puncation i just start flowing and cant stop

Ah, I see, I'm sort of like that too, Once I get going I can't stop, until I have to put in a Period of course. Actually I do like to keep going on and on, casue then you don't derail your trail of thought.
