HELP - 94 Metro losing power

This is a really strange problem - any help is appreciated.
My 1994 Metro, Automatic seems to run very well most of the time. It has plenty of power... for about 1 1/2 hours...
Then suddenly, it will lose power so much that you can only drive around 20 to 25 mph and when you push the accelerator, it spits and sputters. If you stop, it keeps running, but still doesn't have any power. Then if you turn off the key and turn it back on... whoala! It runs like it did before it lost power (seemingly, I'm still suspicious)...
Any suggestions?

fuel pump might be going out, have someone check your fuel pressure when its acting up

Those are the identical symptoms that I once had on a VW Rabbit.
It was caused by a plugged up Fuel Filter!
The "stuff" or dirt in Gasoline will plug up the Fuel Filter and then fall off of the
paper filter material when the engine is not running.
When you start the engine, the junk slowly re-covers the paper and the engine
cannot get sufficent fuel after a couple of hours.
I would find that if I stopped the engine and waited a few minutes, then started
it again I could drive for a while before it happened all over.
In other words, the effect is not constant - off and on effect.
If you have not changed the Fuel Filter for a couple of years, you might try
changing it.
Not a pleasant job - fuel all over you!
I took mine out, bypassed it with Fuel Line Tubing, and put the Filter up front
in the engine compartment between where the line comes into the engine
compartment and the Throttle Body.
Very much easier to change then!
Doing yourself - $30 and much frustration and gasoline all over you.
Having it done - probably $90 for the Filter and Labor. But no sweat!
You might try that to see if things improve - do you agree Crvett69?
