2000 Honda Accord Repetitive Starter Problems

Has anybody had any starter problems with this year and type of car? This will be the 3rd time in a year and a half that the starter is going out. It sounds like it's going to start, and then it makes a grinding noise, and then nothing. After a couple of attempts it will grab and start.

Have you had the starter replaced or is it just a recurring problem? I've never had a problem with my starter *knock on wood*. My friend had similar symptoms when one of the bolts on his integra snapped and the starter was slipping out.

Sounds like you are missing a tooth or two off the flywheel ring gear, or the starter is loose or improperly shimmed as 00 said...

If you have that one replaced, make sure they inspect the entire ring gear for damage.

Just curious, the ring gear, is that in the Tranny hole that looks like flywheel?

They have a bolted or pressed-on ring gear which is the teeth on the flywheel.

The two can be seperated, ring gear can be replaced but a lotta time it's cheaper to just go with a used flywheel (manual) or flexplate (automatic) assembly...

Something like this will cause the kind of problem he's talking about...
