I own a 2000 Continental. While driving a few days ago my door locks would not lock. Everytime I hit the lock button, the locks would quickly lock but then unlock again.

I hoped this was the worst of my problems, but when I went to start the car yesterday.... nothing. You could hear the starter "clicking" but it would not start. I tried switching out the battery, tapping on the starter, etc... This morning the "clicking" continued but suddenly the car started. I repeatedly turned the car off/on to make sure it would still start, which it did. But as of this afternoon, just the clicking was back. Any helpful advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

I called for a tow and the driver recommended jumping it even though I switched batteries previously to see if that was the issue. No luck at first besides the neg connection started smoking. He kept playing with the cables and finally got it to start. Recommends just replacing the battery. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a bad (or going bad) Starter.

I would first open ALL the cable connections, inspect, clean and put 'em back. Check the crimped cable ends as well.

Be sure the battery IS good.

Sounds like an eletrical problem, I would replace your battery then if needed starter. You could have bad cables, or maybe a short. Take it into the garage and peek under the hood for a few hours.

In my opinion You have a Grounding Problem,Check all grounds ;loosen attach point bolts scrape the Metal, don"t just twist them clean metal.;This will cost You nothing; I did a fifteen minute check on a vehicle that someone had sold them a new Battery and Alternator 200 dollars for Parts;
I reached the Starter and moved the Pos cable,tightened 1 complete round
Car fixed, I could not charge a Person for that; These people were ready to buy a new car; I also didn"t mention the fact of The" Mechanic" that had worked on their Car;was either "Psuedo Mechanic" or a "Theif;
