I have a recently bought 95 eclipse gsx turbo. It was bought off a guy who told us that he had bought it for parts, but had desided that it was too "good" to tear apart for parts. I bought it about 7 weeks ago, 3 days later i had it at aamaco, the torque converter was replaced some type of new pump, and all that good stuff. but thats besides the point.
The car after this acted like work was never done to it. it started leaking oil, (white) smoke out the tail pipe every once in a while. soo, we took it to car-x. They had bad news about it, he said that apparently that the guy had taken out the original "turbo engine" and had replaced it with a non turbo engine. He also said that the cover was torn off the timing belt or something like that. he also said, that the reason it moslty is leaking oil is that the engine is building to much presure. He said basically that the turbo and the engine are conflicting with other.
So my questions are these. What would this guy have had to replace to put this type of engine in my car. (from what I understand its a 2.0 ltr 4 cylinder and that it may be from a 92-94 eclipse. On the engine it says 3000 in big white letters.) thats all i know. like changing something with the computer, or wire harnesses. anything. And if the Engine in it is an engine that is usually compatible with my car, why isn't it. I also forgot to mention that it still has the turbo, it just doesnt have a turbo engine.
The car also feels like it has no power from start till the turbo kicks in. and it doesnt seem to want to stay with the speed it gets up to. which may just be because its a 4 cyl. It Rpms up to about 6k before it shifts. but also i don't slowly accelerate. but i can do the same thing in my dads van and it doesnt even compare to this...It then pretty much jerks in the the next gear. It downshifts it self when going down a hill. also a jerky feeling.
This is not all of my problems, but I believe that these are the most important atm.
Im srry I can't give you a lot of details but someone please enliten me.

Whoa dude that sucks. Unfortunately for you, you coulnd't recognize the all mighty 4g63T engine (or lack thereof) before you bought the car.
When you say it has a big 3000 I am stumped are you sure you didn't mean 2000? cause 3000 implies a 3l engine and no Eclipse Talon Or laser ever came with one of those. so if it is in fact a 3l engine it must have been an insane swap. Can you get a pic of the engine up for us to see. I don't really know what to say about the turbo pushing oil yet because we need to figure out exactly whats goin on in there first.

Alright first of all, taking advice from a Car-X mechanic about your DSM is a bad place to start. The guy probably knows very little to anything about your car.
Here is my guess. You have a 4g63 turbo engine. But it is in really sad shape, along with the transmission. It was probably beaten like a red-headed stepchild the majority of it's life. How many miles does it have? White smoke = blown turbo or blown headgasket, or both. If you want to keep this car, take it to a real shop or *dealer :frown:* to find out just what exactly is going on.
Get up some pictures so we have a better idea of what exactly is in your engine bay and what kinda shape the car looks.

Ok, ty for all of the replies, I posted these last night knowing that i was going to the dealer in the morning.
Heres the story. I knew the engine had been swapped, were not sure what type of engine but we know that it is a "non" turbo engine, it is leaking oil from every spot possible, which i have found a new engine a 4g63 and the dealership wants to charge me $1500.00 to put it in, the guy who drove my car believes (im not sure if im spelling this right) the sperlers arent spinning right in my turbo, and said that for a normal gsx that i should be getting at least 210 hp, but said im prolly barely getting half, and said that when they replace the engine, that their going to look at the turbo, and said that in an aftermarket store turbos could run about $800 or in a specialty store around $1500.00.
I have already spent 3k on the transmission, and payed 3.9k on buying the car...should i go ahead and put another 3k in it, or just part it out see what I get for it and then look for a new car itself, and thanks for the red headed step child, I thought only my father used that fraise.

well definitely don't pay 800 for a replacement t-25. I sold my perfectly good working used stocker t25 for 50 bucks. IF you have a quick look I bet someone will be more then willing to sell a t25 either on this forum or dsmtuners.com. So that should save you 700 right there. AS for the engine swap yea its gonna cost you that much at least. I just can't help but wonder if you have the 420A in there or the N/T 4g63.

thank you i appreciate it. I have also found a 4g63 engine and a new turbo for $500, i think im going to go with it, but im not going to have the dealership put the engine in, maybe some other shop, ill look into it, but $1500 I think is a little outragious to just take out an old engine and put in a new. i dunno maybe im wrong, but i will look into it

heh, you are one talented person, I'll have to check that out, but the engines cost plus the cost to have someone put it in is going to kill me :2cents:
But hey what else am i going to spend money on atm.
The guy at the mitsubishi dealership said that a normal gsx like mine should have about 210 hp, mine he says is running about lil over half that. and here i was happy with the car going like it was.
I am not going to have the dealership put it in for me, they want $1500 just in labor, im am going to look into some shops to find out what they might want to charge me =\

Yea a 2g gsx stock is 210 hp
labour for the remove and reinstall of an engine really depends. With the right tools you can do it yourself a lot of people on here have done it. Just get a haines manual a hoist or a b uddy with one ;) and away you go. They charged me 1100 when I was building mine but that was before I knew anything about cars and that was in CAD back when we were worth only 66% of what the USD was worth. Now if I had it all over again I would have changed alot of things but hey you live and you learn.

Well dude, I gotta say that I agree on the chain shop guys looking at your car... bad idea. However, I dont think its any better to go to a dealership. Some dealer guy telling you your "sperlers" arent working right really pointed that out for me. Even if he was talking about the compressor wheel and exhaust turbine and was aiming for "spoolers" he still doesnt know half of what hes talking about. Hell, my buddy had a big arguement with a dealership grease monkey about OBDII... most cars it started in 95 and this knuckle dragger was insistant that it was 2004 that it started :screwy:.
So anyway, I would track down either a DSM or performance oriented shop and have them look at it, or track down a guy close to you that really knows his DSM shit. A dude that knows DSMs really well and doesnt work at a shop probably knows more about them and will also charge you a lot less. Its all trust though, no warranty with some random dude.
Its hard to pinpoint your problem with your symptoms, but what I do know is that you got fucked sorta hard. $3900 isnt too bad for a newer GSX, but 3k for those repairs and to not even fix it is really bad. My best advice for you is to get reading about DSM's and get familiar with how they work and start finding a shop/DSM wiseman to take it to.
