How do I keep from losing my center caps?

I drive a 2000 Silverado 2500 with 8 lug wheels. I recently lost one of my wheel center caps and I have another one that keeps loosening up. The design seems kind of hokey to me. The plastic caps that screw onto the lug nuts are doomed to strip out if you're not extremely careful. Has anyone figured out how to keep them on the truck? I ordered a replacement off ebay but if I have to buy another one I'd just as soon buy new wheels.

you could put silicone or RTV in the threads. Wont be hard to take off and should hold them on there pretty good.

I'd like to know how to keep them tight as well. I tried the silicone sealant thing a few months ago and it didn't help at all. If anything, it was worse.
The best thing I have found so far is to just put them on finger tight. You can feel when the cap "clicks" into place. You don't want to over-tighten them, try to get them just right...

Unfortunately, the only solution I've found is to replace black plastic caps. They strip really easily and It seems that the heat from the brakes causes them to expand. Over time they actually grow or get stretched out. I realized this when I held a new cap next to an old one and there was a noticable difference in size. I put two new caps on a wheel that kept losing it's center cap and so far so good.

I actually noticed that some of the Lugnuts themselves that the black ones bolt on to get growth built up on them. I have some new lug nuts on one side and they seem to hold quite nicely.

I noticed a little buildup on the lugnuts but probably not nearly as much as you. You probably get more snow than we do thus more rust etc.

How about velcro?

Velcro will not has after enough dirt, dust and rain destroy it.
