98 escort A/C

Please help ME!!!!! My 98 escort with 146,000 miles ac just stopped working. My dad tried to recharge it and it did not help. The condenser/compressor is not coming on. My dad thinks its the switch. whick would mean pulling my dash set out, and putting it backe. I dont want to have him or i do this b/c it was a pain to put back in. P.S, the fuses are all good.

Does the blower motor work? Just no cold air? Let us know if the blower is working at all.

I have the same problem with a '97 Escort. The blower motor does work. I have power going to the switch on the dryer and the one on the high pressure line, but I do not have power going to the compressor. Is there a relay somewhere that I'm missing?

The cabin air blower motor and mode seletor circuit must work for the ac clutch circuit to work. The fan/mode circuit suppies voltage to the clutch circuit.

The ac will work when the mode selector switch is in any postion other than "off" ... assuming all the other pieces are in place.

Are there any other relays on it.

The relay for the electromagnetic clutch on the compressor is called the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM). It is under the air intake up against the strut tower. You can't get to it unless you take part of the intake out. It has the relays for the fan on the radiator and relays for the clutch on the A/C. If you do any research you will find that a lot of people have been having one of soldered connections to the A/C clutch break. Rather than lay out $275 for a new CCRM they have been drilling out the rivets on the cover, soldering the connection and resealing the cover and putting it back together with screws. If you don't want to do this get one at the boneyard. I don't think it would cost much if you pulled it yourself and asked how much they would want. I got one for $15 at the local boneyard.

The blower works great other than the fact that the person who had the car b/f me let a bunch of leaves get in and periodically i have to clean it out.
My dad checked the wires and such and they were all good power wise
I read about the ccrm is it apain to completely take out and put in?

Not a pain. Just take the hose loose on the intake and the CCRM has a screw holding it onto to the top of the strut sheet metal. It's a piece of cake.

Yeah. Kicking it is important. The best effect can be achieved by some four letter words expressed at the same time.
