Alright, i have a 91 talon and ive had it for a little less than a year now. The engine was fully rebuilt but the car still runs terribly at idle, but thats beside the point. Yesterday i was driving to work and while pulling into the parking spot i noticed white smoke coming out from under the hood. I shut it off immediatly and popped the hood. There wasnt that much smoke, after the smoke was done i noticed green liquid all over the engine and on the underside of the hood. There was no cooling fluid left and there was a small puddle of it on the intercooler and tranny. I was thinking that it may be the head gasket because i checked all of the hoses but im not sure. I left it there for the time being but i really need to figure out what it is if you guys have any ideas i would love to hear them.Thanks.

This may sound crazy but I would deff. run the car w/ the hood up and look to see where its coming from before you make any assumptions.

the smoke you saw was from your radiator fluid burning off the engine block or whatever it touched that was hot. This happened to me once when my Radiator cap popped out of place after I didn't tighten it all the way when I did a coolant flush. If it was a head gasket it wouldn't be spraying shit onto the hood. SOMEWHERE on your coolant system is leaking. CHeck the rad cap, the overflow bottle (doubt it), the upper and lower radiator hoses, the elbow that has the thermostat and then hopefully its not your rad but it coulda sprung a leak from something dinging it hard. Fill up the coolant turn on the car and watch. MY bet is you'll find it somewhere there.

I doubt its the head gasket. This is funny, I actually had the exact same problem when I bought my car with a "blown head gasket." Well, actually I think the first time it was blown, I remember seeing the part on the HG that was eaten away. Thats all besides the point, back to what I was saying. I am going to tell you what was happening to my car on the way home right after I bought the car and actually just this past week.

When I am driving for short times and distances, my coolant temp is fine. However, when I am out driving for a long time and I stop for say, a light, drive through, etc the coolant temp eeks up. After getting going again, it comes back down to *almost* normal, but not quite. Sure enough after another like 10-20 minutes of driving, even when I am moving, the coolant temp comes back up. When I pulled over, there was that same white smoke coming out from under the hood and under where the stock side mount is and sure enough, a coolant puddle forms right where you were describing.

You know what your problem is? Your fans are not coming on. Once all the coolant is getting too hot and not enough air is flowing over the radiator to keep the car cool, it just plain cant cool the car any longer and it starts to get hot. Just a little bit after that high white line on the coolant temp guage, the radiator cap will start letting out the built up pressure of the hotter than normal coolant. It flows out of the radiator fill cap on the water neck down through that tube to the coolant overflow resivoir where some of it should end up going into, but the rest will go through that other tube that runs along side the resivoir to the ground. Try it sometime, when the guage starts to get hot stop, get out, and see if your fans are running. They wont be :).

I dont know exactly all of what could be causing this, but there is a few things you could check. It could be as simple as a blown fuse. Another thing could be blown fan motors. You can test those by jumpering the correct pins (should be easy to find, just look at the connector and trace the two wires that goes to the fan motor back to the connector). Personally, I dont recommend this, but what I think I am going to do (once I check fuses) is just hard wire the fans to a toggle switch in the car. Soon enough I will be getting slim line fans and I am not entirely sure how to wire those so they will come one when prompted like the stockers would have. Anyway, hope this all helps, let me know if it does.

Know what else? I think I learned something today. It might be as simple as a bad radiator cap. Today I took my buddy for a cruise and yes, we beat on it a little bit (105 comes awful quick, even shifting at 5k due to boost creep :D) but she did not over heat. Got back to his house and we come back outside and sure enough there is coolant all over his driveway. I figure the cap may be weaker or worn out and letting the pressure out via that tubr to the overflow resivoir.
