1997 hard starting

I have a problem with my 97 starting.
Wife took it to town and it just died on her on the city street.
The motor would crank over but not fire.
I place some fuel in intake and it would run for a short time then die.
I finally dump some fuel in intake and place breather back on. The Tahoe would stay running after that, but as soon as I shut it off it will not start. I have to remove breather again and dump gas down intake again and place breather back on. When it does start it doesn't seem to be lacking power or starving for fuel.
Does anybody have any ideas?

I just changed the fuel filter.
After I got it started it would start every time ASAP about 15 times in a roll.
I just went back out to the truck a hour later and back to same problem.
Have to put gas in intake to start.

Not sure what the pressure is yet, hope to do this tonight yet.
I thought I had it for a minute there. DARN!!!!!!!

I can hear the fuel pump come on as soon as I turn the key on for about 3-4 seconds. I can pull the relay out after it is running and it kills the engine.

Can the igintion switch have anything to do with it? The pump is running when I try to start it.

I believe the 1997 doesn't have the security anti-theif system that cuts the fuel off. I believe they started that in 1998.
