1994 Caravan question

Hi, I'm tomie, I'm brand new here. I have a problem with my 1994 van air conditioner. Actually it is probably a problem with the van itself.
My air works excellent, however, when slowing below about 35 mph, tha van stalls. Not all of the time but 75% of the time. I turn the air off and it restarts with no problems and then even with the air off it continues to stall at low speed for the next 4 or 5 times when I slow down, then goes right back to normal.
Have any of you had that problem, or know what it might be? And is it an expensive repair? I will be forever greatful,
tomie .

Welcome to the forum. First thing to do is check for error codes. How? Turn the key from off to on three times (not start) leaving it on. Now count the number of times the check engine light flashes. All codes are two digits. Code 21 would be flash, flash, pause, flash. There will be a longer pause between codes. Code 55 means the test is over. Do this several times to make sure you are reading the codes correctly.

This could be caused by several things. Most likely among them are the idle air control valve, EGR system, or a vacuum leak. Which engine do you have and does it idle ok when in park?

Wow - I have a 94 Grand Caravan and have had the same exact issue, except for me it would happen maybe 33% of the time. The car would never stall when I drove it without the a/c on. It got to the point where I would shut down the compressor whenever I was slowing down to exit the highway. It seems to me that the stall was being triggered by the cycling of the compressor on and off, and so it seems likely that the idle air control motor is suspect. This is also what I was told by Pat Goss. Interestingly, I cleaned out my throttle body and idle air valve thoroughly with air intake cleaner and I have not had a stall yet this entire summer. On the other hand, I don't really drive the van extensively anymore (1.5k miles over the summer), so it's hard to say, but so far so good.
