I was told its not always good to fire up the ac right as you turn on the engine as it puts wear and strain on the compressor and engine if its not warmed up. im thinking a good few seconds or minute be good to wait to turn on the ac??

Maybe having it on during startup (the compressor clutch engaged) could put an extra load on the starter, and may put improper voltage through the compressor clutch, but I don't see how it could harm the compressor by not waiting until the engine warms up before running the A/C.

I always start the engine with the A/C on in the summer, and after doing this for 20 summers, I have yet to see any harm come out of it.

In general I tend to avoid starting anything with unnecessary loads on it. I turn off everything when I kill the car for the night. Just one of those things that I do and so far it works for me.
