93 beretta need help on several issues

I have a 93 beretta with a 3.1 fi. The ignition module,egr valve,crank shaft sensor,computer, one of the coils, and the oil fuel air filters have been replaced. But It's still not running very good. It usually takes several cranks to start up. At times when i have to accelerate the car hard it dies. I am not sure what else to replace. I figured out that most of the problems are from the Torque converter selonoid so i unplugged it and the amount of dieing went down a lot. I now need to know how to replace it. Any and all help is appreciated thank you very much.

Do you have any check engine light on, if so, what codes are stored.

Replacing the TCC solenoid is difficult due to it's location. It is under the side cover of the transaxle and requires dropping the engine/trans down to clear the subframe rail.

Outside of what you already replaced, the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), IAC (Idle Air Control) valve and FPR (fuel pressure regulator) are all causes of your symptoms.

Since it acts up mostly when you try to accelerate, I would suspect the TPS and FPR first, as the IAC only affects idle/part throttle operation.

The TPS you can test by unplugging it, hooking a digital or analog multimeter set to ohms to it and move it through it's range of motion. The change in resistance should be smooth and linear with no gaps, or sudden big jumps.

Check the FPR for fuel in the vacuum line (this would indicate a ruptured diaphram that is leaking). Also check fuel pressure with a guage hooked up at the schrader valve (should be 41-44psi, key on/engine off) and should drop 3-7 psi engine running with the vacuum hooked up. Unhook the vacuum line to the FPR, and fuel pressure should increase back up to near original Key on/engine off readings. Good luck!

No there is no check engine light on. I have tried several times and have found no trouble codes. I will try the tests you recomended. Thank you very much for the input.

It seems to be getting worse lately. It is especially bad when the motor is warm. Does this make a difference that most of the problems happen when the car is warm?

Okay, Here I am back again. Tps, Iac, plugs/plug wires, is what I replaced this time. Still not running good. About a month ago i was pulling roughly 27 miles to the gallon. I ran the numbers and my last tank of gas I averaged 18 miles to the gallon. Would anyone have a clue of what is going on? Thanks

HAve you checked fuel pressure with a guage? It should read 41-44psi, key on/engine off, then drop 3-7psi when the engine is started and the vacuum is still hooked up. If you pull the vacuum to the FPR with the car running, pressure should jump back up to near key on/engine off readings.

Did you look for vacuum leaks? I assume you replaced plugs and wires already. Have you looked at your spark to see what it looks like when its acting up?

Yes I looked for vacume leaks. Checked the fuel pressure finally it is good. What next? All I can think of for my gas mileage to drop from 28 to 17 mtg is that i have a coil out.

It could be your coil but you need to look and see what kind of spark your getting before replacing the coil pack.

Check your PCV valve! I had a stalling issue and i replaced every sensor on the engine before I replaced the PCV valve, which was the issue. Plus it is sooo easy to do and the part is cheap.

Where is the Pcv valve located?

The PCV valve is on the back of the engine. There is a plastic hose that goes to it. Simply remove the hose, and then the PVC vlave will wiggle out of its housing easily. Just slap another on in there and go!

Reading on the 02 sensor? I'm not very familiar with newish cars. You'll have to be more specific. I found out the other day I had a spark plug malfunctioning and I was only running on five cylinders. I fixed it and it definately helped, but it's still not running like it should after all the money i've put into it, so at this point I think i'm going to throw in the towel and just drive it till the wheels fall off. The car has a rough body and interior, and has 160,000 miles so I just don't see the point in putting any more money into it. I say just drive it as long as I can, then part out what I can, then sell what's left for scrap.

fuel filter? have you changed that lately, that will make your fuel economy terrible, and its VERY hard on your car, injectors fuel pressure regulator ect..
