98 Buick Regal won't start

I'm trying to help my girlfriend with her 98 Buick Regal GS problem.

When trying to start her car, there is no response when I turn the key. I have looked at the connections, fuses, and relays with no success. It is as if there is no continuity to the starter. In the past we have gently pushed the floor shifter as far forward as we could and the car would then start.

Is there a contact switch on the transmission shifter that may be broken or out of adjustment? If not, where else can we look?

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Welcome Aboard!

The PARK/NEUTRAL safety switch is not in the transmission, but mounted to the top of the transmission on its exterior. You can inspect the switch and connections fairly easily.

You might also try starting the engine with the transmission in neutral instead of park.

Technically it is called a "transmission range switch" since it has all shift positions (PRND321).

Look under the cruise control and ABS Modulator/Pump//EBTCM modules where you will see the shifter cable and linkage. See pic below. I wouldn't say it is easy to access/service especially to replace but accessible.
