87 dash board.

Just bought an 1987 Chevy caprice V6 :uhoh: lol....Looking to get an LS1 dropped in this winter or spring.

I could never find a good running 1988 so I settled for this, guess I need to change my screen name huh? lol

Besides the much needed body work and interior it so far runs great, made a 100mile trip back home with no problem and drived better then my 2001 Buicl Leasbre.


Okay here is the Issue. On the dash where the guages are, and where it has the Put it in D(DRIVE),R,N,P etc.

When I put it into gear it dosent have the little needle to tell me what gears its in.

I'm going to order a Dakota digital dash like this soon.

But untill then is there anything I can do to fix this? will I need a whole new dash?

I think the part with the little needle can be had at the salvage yard, not sure for that vehicle. I had a similar problem many years ago and what I did to "fix" it was count the "clicks"when I pulled on the lever. one click= "R", two"clicks"N", three clicks"D" and so on. This may not be a viable option for all as you have to remember to do it every time you want to go in gear.

See where it says 'Drive' above? It looks to me as though that replaces the old needle pointer shift quadrant.

I've never really dealt much with digital dashes, with that said, I happen to be flipping channels on the satellite last evening while fixing dinner and I came across MTV Cribs . They were showing the many cars this hip-hop producer, ( can't remember his name, caught the last half of the show,) had ,and another rap artists' collection. The artist had a 1971 Impala and when they showed the interior, he had the same exact digital dash as pictured in your post above.Talk about coincidence.

I don't have an exact cost or a part number for you, but it is still available through Goodwrench dealers. I think I got mine in '03 for about $10 - included the pointer and the quadrant.

Yeah I'll make a trip out to the dismantler tomorrow and see what they got, I need a new front bumpers and bumper filler too.

Yeah I know exactly what car your talking about. I seen it on MTV rides DUB edition.
