So I took my T-bird to my mechanic to get 2 brake lines replaced the other day and after he finished he gave me some bad news. Theres a hole about 4"X7" in my frame also other areas are getting bad, so it won't pass inspection in the spring. I was just looking to sell the car, in fact I bought the for sale signs the day before I found this out. So if it won't pass inspection then I can't sell it for very much due to the lemon law. Before I found out this info about the frame I was looking to sell her for $2500 or OBO but now I hope to get $1500. I've put so much work and money into this car. I mean it has a new head gasket that I put in, throttle valve cable bushing replaced w/ stock brass replacement which I put in, brand new tires (not even a 1k on them yet), and a Cold air intake that I put in, and to top it off I haven't even put 6k on the car yet and I've had it for a year and a half. This is getting very agitating just writing this...so what can I do? What will the lemon law allow me to do. Couldn't I tell whoever looks at it that there is a hole in the frame and that it won't pass inspection but I was told that it can be temporarily patched to make it last longer but will not fix it permanently? Any advice will due guys, I'm already taking a loss as to how much I've put into this car.

If you have welding skills. Cut a plate and weld it in and paint it black. If not i honestly would throw it on ebay. with the frame like that you prolly wont get much ned.

I think I've decided what I'm going to do is drive it until Spring when I will have my income tax and have some money saved up, I will trade it in at the dealer on a new car along with some money down. It will not only guarantee that I get the loan but it will also allow me to use a "beater" for the winter, that way I don't risk damaging the new vehicle in bad weather.

Thats a good call. Either that, or report it stolen and hide it then three days later drive it to Canada and torch it :p.

Nah dude, dont do that. I would find a buddy with welding skills and have him weld the bitch up. Take it to inspection in the spring and see if it passes, if it does, try to sell it for your $2500, if not then just trade 'er in.

What does the lemon law state? Does the car need to be new or used to still be called a lemon?

Lemon Law of NY states:

ARE PRIVATE SALES COVERED?

No. If you bought your car from a private individual (rather than from a dealer) you are not protected by the Used Car Lemon Law. You should consult a lawyer for advice as to other possible remedies. If the purchase price was $3,000 or less, you may wish to pursue your claim in Small Claims Court.

Dude, why are you so hung up on this Lemon Law? Have it welded up (come to think of it, any high school with and auto and welding shop should be able to have it done) and inspected, if it passes inspection then you're golden. If not then just be straight forward about the car.

Yeah I have to agree with what everyone else says in this thread. I know most of the time shops seem to make frame damage out to be the end all. But it isn't necessarily.

You have a few holes in your frame. Do what anyone would do in this situation and patch them. This isn't like your frame is tweaked. It's just a hole.
